The Sultanahmet Square known in ancient times as the Hippodrome. The Egyptian Obelisk known as the Obelisk of Theodosius carved out of porphyry or pink granite the hardest stone on earth. 25 meters high brought to Istanbul from Egypt in the 4th century.
