Yosemite National Park
Naturalist John Muir loved this place and in 1890 through his endeavours it secured National Park status.
This is a spectacular place and the centrepiece is Yosemite Valley surrounded by sheer granite walls rising to some 3000ft.
Yosemite’s natural wonders stretch beyond the valley there are the giant sequoias trees in Mariposa Grove and the dam at Hetch Hetchy as well as the image of the polished dome of Half Dome and from Glacier Point the entire vista of the valley unfolds beneath you.
The remarkable sight of El Capitan a spectacular rock formation, which draws climbers from all over the world to take on its high degree of difficulty, is a wonder to behold.
Yosemite is as John Muir said a very special place; it is filled with thundering waterfalls and meadows blanketed in wild flowers and there is always the chance of seeing Coyote and wild bears.
