The Grand Canyon
During his first visit to the Grand Canyon in 1903, President Theodore Roosevlt proclaimed the Grand Canyon as "The one great sight which every American should see".
I decided to visit the Grand Canyon on a trip that would take me on to visit yet another great American National Park, Yosemite.
I was determined to reach the Grand Canyon before dawn and get the benifit of the early morning light. So leaving my hotel in Flagstaff I entered the South Rim in the dark.
Standing on the rim as dawn broke was one of the most amazing experiences I have encountered and one I can only explain as being one of natures more spiritual moments.
The fact is this is one of the wonders of the world and it is truly breath taking. No wonder the native indians treated this place with such reverance it is simply septacular.
The early morning light and the morning mist rising from the Colorado River far below add something to these images, which make me glad I decided to make a dawn visit to this wonderious and spiritual place.
